YOYOGI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

YOYOGI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

Founded in 1999 by Yuko Muir, Yoyogi International School was created to provide a first-class educational environment for Tokyo’s expatriate community — one where children feel safe, secure, and confident. Over the years, the school has supported more than 2,000 international families, earning a strong reputation for care, quality, and global-minded learning. Uniquely located in the vibrant heart of Tokyo and steps away from Yoyogi Park, the school offers an exceptional blend of urban access and natural tranquility. Students benefit from world-class community resources integrated directly into their learning, including nearby parks, Olympic facilities, galleries, and cultural institutions. The newly designed Jinnan Campus, home to Grades 2–8, provides modern, light-filled spaces such as a Tech Lab with 3D printers, a creative Studio, and classrooms designed to spark curiosity and innovation. Yoyogi International School is also an authorised IB World School for the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Looking ahead, the school continues to expand its academic pathway. Grade 9 (MYP Grade 9) will launch in August 2026, marking the school’s transition toward becoming a full Middle Years Programme (MYP) institution, with plans to seek IB Diploma Programme authorisation for Grades 11 and 12 thereafter. The addition of a new PreKindergarten programme (ages 4–5) further strengthens the school’s early learning offerings, located at the Yoyogi Campus alongside Kindergarten. From the 2026–2027 school year, all Grade School students will be based at the Jinnan Campus.

Academic Excellence

Yoyogi International School offers a globally minded, inquiry-driven education built on the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and enriched by standards from the US Common Core and UK National Curriculum. As a fully authorised IB World School, Yoyogi provides a rigorous, internationally aligned learning pathway from Kindergarten through Middle School. In the Kindergarten programme, children learn in a secure, nurturing environment that supports cognitive, physical, and emotional growth through hands-on exploration. Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) is woven throughout the curriculum, helping young learners build confidence, resilience, and the qualities of internationally minded students. All children study Japanese, either as a native or foreign language, building cultural understanding and communication skills. The Primary School extends early foundations through transdisciplinary units of inquiry that connect real-world concepts across subjects. Students take increasing ownership of their learning, supported by small class sizes and differentiated Japanese language pathways — Kokugo for native speakers and Japanese as an Additional Language (JAL) for non-native learners, following age-appropriate government-approved materials. In the Middle School, students develop a strong academic profile through an inquiry-based, concept-driven curriculum aligned with the US Common Core and UK National Curriculum. They engage with a full spectrum of subjects including Mathematics, Sciences, English, Humanities, Design, Japanese, Physical and Health Education, Music, and Visual Arts, supported by phase-based language instruction that advances toward Japanese literature studies following the national Kokugo framework.
