Learning at Canadian International School Tokyo is designed as a continuous journey from early childhood through to graduation, preparing students for success at leading universities worldwide. In Kindergarten and Preschool, learning is student-centred and inquiry-based. Children are introduced to English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, music, art, and physical education through play, learning centres, and guided instruction. Small class sizes allow for personalised support, while the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) builds curiosity, communication, and a strong foundation for lifelong learning. From Grades 1 to 9, CIS blends the Canadian curriculum with international approaches to deepen academic understanding and critical thinking. Students build strong literacy and numeracy skills, develop independence, and learn to collaborate effectively, preparing them for the academic demands of senior school. In Grades 10 to 12, students follow a fully accredited Canadian secondary programme, earning a Prince Edward Island (PEI) Graduation Certificate, recognised across Canada and internationally. This rigorous pathway meets university entrance requirements in Canada, the US, Japan, and beyond. CIS also offers the Advanced Placement (AP) programme, allowing students to take university-level courses in subjects such as Calculus, English, World History, Chemistry, and Physics. AP qualifications are widely recognised and may provide university credit or advanced placement.
