UIA International School of Tokyo

UIA International School of Tokyo is an inclusive international school offering the Cambridge curriculum from Early Years through to Upper Secondary. The school serves a diverse student body representing over 25 nationalities, creating a multicultural learning environment that encourages global awareness and cross-cultural understanding. Founded in 2010 (originally as Tathva International School), the school entered a new phase of growth after its acquisition by UIA Holdings in 2016. In 2020, it was renamed UIA International School of Tokyo and later that year relocated to its current Kiba Campus, enhancing its facilities and learning environment. UIA places strong emphasis on developing international-minded, responsible global citizens, believing that daily interaction within a diverse community naturally fosters empathy, openness, and global perspective. Supported by experienced teachers, modern facilities, and the academically rigorous Cambridge pathway, students are prepared for further education and meaningful participation in both local and international communities.

Academic

Academic Excellence

At UIA, the academic journey is carefully structured to support confident progression from early years through to pre-university study, following the internationally recognised Cambridge Pathway. Early Years (Ages 3–5) UIA Early Years is organised into three stages: Cubs (3+), Pandacorns (4+), and Dolphins (5+). Children develop strong foundations across literacy, numeracy, science, art, gross motor skills, and social-emotional learning. By the end of Pandacorns, students are already reading sentences, writing simple words, and confidently handling basic mathematics—ensuring a smooth transition into formal Cambridge learning. EY 3 – Dolphins (Age 5+) Dolphins marks the introduction to the Cambridge Curriculum, with a clear focus on English, Mathematics, and Science. This stage bridges play-based learning with structured academic expectations, preparing students for Cambridge Primary Stage 1. Primary School (Cambridge Primary | Ages 5–11) UIA offers a broad and balanced Cambridge Primary programme, building strong skills in English, Maths, and Science alongside Social Studies and second-language learning. The curriculum is age-appropriate, structured, and globally benchmarked, supporting steady academic growth and curiosity. Lower Secondary (Cambridge Lower Secondary | Ages 11–14) Cambridge Lower Secondary deepens subject knowledge while developing critical thinking and independent learning skills. This stage provides a clear academic pathway and prepares students for the rigour of upper secondary study. Upper Secondary (Cambridge Upper Secondary | Ages 14–16) Students work towards Cambridge IGCSE qualifications, gaining internationally recognised credentials that reflect both academic depth and skill development. Senior Secondary (Cambridge Advanced | Ages 16–19) In Grades 11 and 12, students pursue Cambridge International AS Levels and A Levels, globally respected qualifications that open pathways to leading universities worldwide. This clearly defined progression ensures that UIA students move confidently through each stage of learning, supported by a consistent, internationally recognised academic framework.

Beyond Classroom

At UIA, learning is extended every Friday through a structured Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) programme for students in Grades 1 to 10. These teacher-led ECAs complement the Cambridge curriculum, allowing students to explore interests, build practical skills, and connect with peers across year levels. Grades 1–3 Younger students engage in a wide mix of creative, physical, and exploratory activities such as Home Economics, Brainteasers, Jiu Jitsu, football, yoga, aerobics, choir, chess, drama, Zumba, and outdoor options like Nature Observation & Art Journaling and Japanese Culture Club. Grades 4–7 As interests broaden, students can choose from Soccer Skills, Performing Arts, Yoga & Meditation, Origami, Calligraphy (Shodo), Survival Japanese, Book vs. Movie Club, Magic Club, Escape Room Club, and global-themed activities like Around the World. Grades 8–10 Older students benefit from more specialised options including Model United Nations (MUN), STEM Club, Volleyball, Table Tennis, American Film Criticism, Food & Cooking Club, Art Club, Nature Walks, and Japanese Culture Club. UIA’s Model United Nations Club, established in 2021, has become a standout programme. Students prepare weekly for conferences and have participated in multiple national and international events. In 2023, UIA students were accepted into Harvard Model United Nations, competing in Boston after months of preparation—an achievement that reflects the school’s growing global engagement and academic ambition. Together, UIA’s ECAs provide meaningful opportunities for students to explore passions, develop leadership and collaboration skills, and gain experiences that go well beyond the classroom.
