Wentworth College is a small, academically focused private school located in Gulf Harbour on Auckland’s Hibiscus Coast, offering a calm and picturesque learning environment just 40 minutes from Auckland CBD. The school officially opened on 27 August 2003, inaugurated by the then Governor-General Dame Sylvia Cartwright, and has since established a strong reputation for academic rigour and personalised education. With a current roll of approximately 260 students, Wentworth College is known for its small class sizes and close student–teacher relationships. The school delivers the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) curriculum, supporting students in achieving strong academic outcomes, with over 95% of graduates progressing to university in New Zealand or overseas. International students also have the option to study NCEA English to gain credits for entry into New Zealand universities if they do not choose Cambridge English. Wentworth College has a history of welcoming international students from countries including China, South Korea, Thailand, Japan, France, and Germany, who benefit from a robust ESOL programme that supports both academic progress and English language development. Set near the Weiti River and Gulf Harbour, the school places strong emphasis on sport and wellbeing. Students can choose from 23 sporting codes, with facilities including a large gymnasium, astro-turf sports field, and access to sailing and rowing opportunities. Most students participate in at least one sport, contributing to a balanced and engaging school experience.

Academic Excellence
Wentworth College offers a clear, internationally respected academic pathway from primary through senior secondary, built on the Cambridge International curriculum and designed to prepare students for top universities worldwide. At Wentworth Primary, students follow the Cambridge Primary curriculum in English, Mathematics, and Science, building strong academic foundations while developing curiosity and a genuine enjoyment of learning. This programme ensures a smooth and seamless transition into Wentworth College. In the College, students study the Cambridge International Education (CIE) curriculum, one of the world’s most widely recognised qualification systems. Cambridge IGCSE is typically undertaken in Years 10 and 11, offering a broad, skills-based education that encourages critical thinking and deep subject understanding. Flexible entry points allow students to join in Year 11 with structured academic support where needed. In the senior years, students progress to Cambridge AS and A Levels, globally recognised qualifications accepted by leading universities across New Zealand, Europe, the UK, and the United States. With over 95% of Year 13 students achieving University Entrance, and recognition as a Cambridge Centre of Excellence—placing the school in the top 1% of Cambridge schools worldwide—Wentworth College is widely regarded as a leading global educator.
Beyond Classroom
The Wentworth Cross Country event is held each year in the beautiful Shakespear Regional Park. The stunning location, and mild weather, always makes for an enjoyable and competitive event between our school houses. There are always some fierce battles fought across the finish line, with school records set, and broken each year. It is always good to see so many students participating with smiles on their faces and enjoying the afternoon with their peers.
